And now, a veteran newsman remarked that embattled Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim is following the same political path.
"What Anwar did, Khalid is copying. If we remember, in 1998, Anwar too refused to resign and withdraw.
"So we should not be surprised if Khalid employs the same strategy, waiting to be sacked and not resign. Bapa borek, anak rintik (Like father, like son)," said A Kadir Jasin ( right ) in his blog.
According to the former New Straits Times group editor in chief, the matter is simple.
If he resigns, Kadir said, the menteri besar would "drift away" (into political oblivion) and his action would lend credence to the accusations levelled against him.
"But if he defends his post and gets sacked, he would be considered as a hero by some and earn their respect.
"Whereas others may perceive him as a victim of a political conspiracy and sympathise with him," he added.
Meanwhile, Kadir also warned that a snap election in Selangor to resolve the impasse could spell peril for Pakatan Rakyat.
After the Kajang by-election imbroglio, he said, PKR's allies and voters might not want to be exploited by Anwar and his supporters.
"This is the dilemma of Selangor Pakatan now.
"PAS which is the biggest party in the state assembly (in terms of seats) and DAP, the second biggest, are being dragged into PKR's politics which centres around Anwar, his family and hardcore supporters," he added.
