PKR's disciplinary board has issued a show-cause letter to Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim for blatantly defying the party’s decision asking for his resignation.

The board’s chairperson Tan Kee Kwong ( right ) said the party's plan to change the menteri besar was hatched on Jan 15 and the party’s top leaders also named Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as Khalid’s replacement on July 21.

However, a day later, Khalid issued a statement saying he would stay on.

“The political bureau met on Aug 3 to discuss the matter and directed the Disciplinary Board to issue a show-cause letter to Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

“He has to answer the show-cause letter before or on Aug 8, 2014,” Tan said in a press statement.

In the letter dated today, Tan sternly warned Khalid that PKR would not hesitate to take disciplinary action against him at the end of the three days' grace period.

“The disciplinary board will act on whatever available evidence, without the need to refer to you any more,”  the letter, a copy of which was provided to the press, warned.

Key meetings on ‘Kajang move’ highlighted

In charging that Khalid had strayed from the party’s order, Tan’s letter also highlighted the the key meetings which decided on its so-called ‘Kajang move’. Tan noted that the PKR central leaders council had passed the “mandate” to let defacto leader Anwar Ibrahim replace Khalid on Jan 15.

This confirmed why two weeks later, Kajang state assemblyperson Lim Chin Cheh suddenly vacated his seat for Anwar, the MP for Permatang Pauh, to contest a state seat. At that time, PKR, however, did not directly confirm nor deny that Anwar would replace Khalid.

Anwar is also the special economic adviser to the Selangor state government.

“Due to certain reasons that blocked Anwar from contesting in Kajang, the party then chose Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the replacement candidate. However, the Kajang move was still in place,” Tan said.

The letter to Khalid then swept aside nearly three months of events and jumped to the party leaders again unanimously deciding on July 21 that Wan Azizah, also the party’s president, should be the new MB.

Khalid is now asked to explain why he issued a letter on July 22 sidelining the party’s decision and refused to step down.

Over the last week, this issue has been further flamed into a Pakatan Rakyat issue when some top PAS leaders openly condemned PKR’s move and insisted that Khalid stay.

DAP has however made a stand with PKR and agreed to the change of MB. PAS has said it would decide again in a meeting on Aug 10.

Each party holds an almost equal number of seats in the Selangor state assembly and without PAS support, it is likely that a vote of no confidence in the assembly to forcefully replace Khalid would be difficult to muster.
