Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah is expected to meet PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail after meeting Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

However, he does not know precisely when the palace will grant an audience to Wan Azizah.

Khalid said earlier today that he will meet the Selangor sultan tomorrow .

Anwar, when met at the Kuala Lumpur court complex today said PKR sent a letter last week with the 30 statutory declaration (by the state assemblypersons)

to seek an audience with the sultan.

He said the palace had acknowledged receiving the letter.

"The palace has acknowledged receiving our letter but Tuanku has to go through the process of meeting the MB first and then Wan Azizah."

Asked whether the 13 PAS assemblypersons by not signing the SD would create a problem, Anwar said he does not know why this matter should crop-up.

“What was agreed in the last Pakatan Rakyat meeting is that (PKR deputy president) Azmin Ali had agree to withdraw following PAS had nominated him and Wan Azizah. What was agreed was that one candidate should be submitted to the ruler.

“That was to me sufficient. I do not expect any problems. On whether there is a need, I think it is not necessary. The legal team advises that since the 30 SDs had been sent, they would be sufficient,” he said.

Asked whether it was necessary for all three Pakatan component secretaries-general to sign the letter to the sultan, Anwar said it was not necessary as what was legally required was the state assemblypersons.

“Without the support of the state assemblypersons, according to our legal advisers (the signing by the three secretaries-general) to propose Wan Azizah’s name is not necessary any more,” he said.

An agreement between the three parties

Furthermore, Anwar said there was an agreement before the three parties.

That is why, said Anwar, who is also Permatang Pauh MP, he was perplexed as to why there is confusion on the need of the 13 PAS assemblypersons to sign the SD.

“That is what happened in 2004 and 2008, where the Pakatan party leaders signed on behalf of the various state assemblypersons.”

“As far as I am concerned, there is no need (for the signature of the 13 PAS assemblypersons’ SDs). It is sufficient. The palace acknowledged receiving the letter (with the 30 assemblypersons SDs),” he said.

It was reported over the weekend that the PAS central committee will meet today to discuss the 13 SDs.

However, the Islamist party said the 13 assemblypersons would not sign any SDs and leave the decision to the Selangor sultan.
