Nik Nazmi: Why no action over 'beheading' threat?

"Many leaders from BN, Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) and Perkasa had issued statements that are clearly criminal but no action had been taken," he said in a statement today.
As an example, Nik Nazmi ( left ) said he had lodged a police report against Ruslan over a statement he made on June 23, during a protest in support of Selangor's religious authorities.
The protest was held in response to Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin, Kota Raja MP Siti Mariah Mahmud, and Hulu Langat MP Che Rosli Che Mat's urging to strip Selangor Religious Affairs Council (Mais) of its executive powers.
"If they continue to ridicule the religion and the sultan, we will chop off their heads.
"It is better they get lost, better they die, better they don’t live in this country than be a disease, a virus and a parasite on our religion, race and country," Ruslan said.
He had since clarified in a Malaysiakini interview that it was a figure of speech, and claimed that he meant to kill off the political careers of the four MPs instead of beheading them, but had misspoken his words.
Meanwhile, Nik Nazmi urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to repeal the Sedition Act and stop prosecuting Pakatan Rakyat leaders.
"In July 2012, Najib had announced that the Sedition Act would be repealed in line with his transformation plan.
"Nevertheless two years later, it appears to be a mere empty promise.
"Adding to the disappointment, more Pakatan leaders are being investigated under this law," he said.
Among the Pakatan leaders charged under the Sedition Act this month include Padang Serai MP N Surendran, Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer, Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, while Changkat Jering assemblyperson Nizar Jamaluddin and PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli face other criminal charges.
