An overwhelming majority of Selangor residents want fresh elections to be called in the state, Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali said today, claiming that this is based on a survey that he had personally conducted.

He had surveyed five different groups of 20 people, and on every occasion, at least 17 out of the 20 felt that a state election should be called, Ibrahim said in a statement.

He said he conducted the survey after it became "apparent" that PKR, PAS and DAP were not respecting the wishes of the Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who had asked for each party to submit more than two names as candidates to replace Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

PAS has said that it would be sending in two names as candidates today, while PKR and DAP had already sent their respective letters to the palace, both nominating only one candidate, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

However, PAS has stressed it will only name PKR representatives as potential candidates.

'PAS has no confidence in its representatives'

"I am not illiterate and I can read. The meaning of what the sultan said is more than two names from each party. PAS should nominate at least two names from its own party," Ibrahim said.

"PAS does not respect, nor has confidence in its own representatives and has gone against the sultan's decree. It's clear it does not want the sultan to have the choice in picking the best candidate," he said.

"Perkasa Selangor members have also gathered opinions and majority of the people want the state assembly to be dissolved."

Ibrahim added that Perkasa would support any move by the outgoing Khalid to advise for the dissolution of the state assembly.

Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim declined to elaborate on the issue of dissolution.

When asked whether it was possible for the state government to be dissolved, Khalid said it was up to the sultan to decide.

"I do not want to elaborate on that as it will only create speculation. Priority now is find a replacement for the menteri besar post," he said.

He then expressed hope for his successor to bring about "better progress and development" as well as "do a lot of hardwork".
