A 29-year old university student is slated to be charged under the Sedition Act on Monday, said his lawyer Michelle Yesudas.

She told Malaysiakini that the Gombak police had informed her on Wednesday that Ali Abdul Jalil would be charged at the Selayang Sessions Court under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act over a Facebook posting he had allegedly made in January.

She said during questioning last week, police had quizzed him regarding the Rejimen Anarki (Anarchist Regiment) Facebook page.

"It is all about insulting the sultan. Not as himself, but as Rejimen Anarki (Anarchist Regiment)," she said.

Upon conviction, first-time offender is liable to be fined up to RM5,000, or imprisoned up to three years, or both.
