PAS Temerloh MP Nasrudin Hassan has defended party president Abdul Hadi Awang, saying members of an Islamic movement should toe their leader's line.

Nasrudin did not specifically mention Hadi but alluded to the president overruling the party's central committee on the candidate list for Selangor menteri besar.

"It is true that Islam teaches us to make decisions based on discussions but as an elected leader who has been given the mandate, he has the executive power that allows him to make his own decision," he told a forum in Bangi last night, according to KiniTV.

Hadi's office on Wednesday ignored the PAS central committee's decision and submitted its own list of candidates for the menteri besar post to the Selangor palace for consideration.

The PAS central committee had on Aug 17 endorsed PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and her deputy Azmin Ali but both names were reportedly omitted from Hadi's list.

The move has also frustrated PAS’ Pakatan Rakyat partners PKR and DAP which have supported Wan Azizah to replace Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim who has lost majority support in the state assembly.

Nasrudin, who is a proponent of the conservative faction in PAS, said when a leader has made a decision, members of an Islamic party are taught to be disciplined and compliant.

'No leak, no issue'

He also slammed those who leaked information from secret discussions in an apparent reference to the PAS central committee Whatsapp group chat in July.

A picture of PAS Research Centre operations director Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki's message was leaked in which he proposed a scenario where PAS abandon its allies PKR and DAP to join forces with arch-rival Umno in Selangor.

Nasrudin described this as a "printscreen phenomenon" warning that it can create discord.

"People say why say such things until it is leaked and becomes an issue. But I say no matter whatever people say, if it is not leaked then it will not become an issue.

"The wrong is in leaking the secrets of an Islamic movement," he said.
