A UiTM student group has called for sedition charges against those who lodged a police report against the 'Allah and Kristologi' seminar held last May.

Qamarul Hazrin Harun, who leads Persatuan Belia Islam Nasional (Pembina) at the Puncak Alam and Puncak Perdana campuses, said authors Perzeus James and Uthaya Sankar SB (below) should be charged for disparaging the seminar .

"They should know that UiTM is one of the special privileges given to the Malay community as enshrined in Article 153 of the federal constitution," Qamarul told portal Ismaweb .

Ismaweb is the mouthpiece of Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma), while Pembina is the NGO's youth initiative.

He said that UiTM as an academic centre must be responsible to educate the students about the "threat of Christianisation" which he claims is actually happening.

"The threat of Christianisation is not just empty words – they are actually happening.

"So why are they (Perzeus and Uthaya) urging the authorities to charge the organisers of the seminar for sedition?" he asked while commending UiTM for organising events like this.

'Nothing wrong'

According to Qamarul, the duo had acted like "whiny children complaining when they can't get their candies" for lodging the report .

He also said that it is not wrong for UiTM to educate the students against the use of the word 'Allah' by non-Muslims as the Federal Court on June 23 had found that the word is exclusive to Muslims.

The Federal Court declined to grant leave to the Catholic Archbishop to appeal the Court of Appeal's decision to uphold the Home Ministry's ban of the use of the word by weekly The Herald .

However, some lawyers argue that the court decision is short of an endorsement of the Court of Appeal's findings that the word 'Allah' is not integral to the Christian faith.

Perzeus and Uthaya lodged a police report at the Shah Alam police station against the May 6 seminar 'Kalimah Allah dan Kristologi Nusantara' which was accused of spreading "anti-Christian" messages.
