DAP parliamentarian Lim Lip Eng today called on PAS to be consistent with its stand on violence.
The Segambut MP said this was after several PAS leaders were seemed to be 'admiring' the path taken by former PAS member Mohd Lotfi Ariffin, who was reported to have died in Syria.
"Several PAS members seem to be agreeing with the path taken by Lotfi, thus causing confusion on the party’s stand on militant activities and violence," Lim ( left ) said in a statement today.
Pointing out how PAS had expelled Lotfi from the party for his involvement in militant activities, Lim added that PAS had to be careful in expressing support for any militant groups as well as individuals.
"The path taken by Lotfi was his choice, but we should not support violence, no matter what.
"The way forward is with democracy, the struggle for justice as well as freedom without bloodshed," he said.
Martyrdom
Although Lim did not specify anyone from PAS, the party’s information chief, Mahfuz Omar, yesterday reportedly said that he prays Lotfi will be "rewarded (by God) for his ambition for martyrdom".
Meanwhile, PAS central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz ( left ) on Facebook shared a conversation which took place between Pahang PAS Dewan Ulama chief Mokhtar Senik and Lotfi.
The conversation quotes Mokhtar as saying he was told by Lotfi that he had dreamed three times of drinking water from a river, which tasted like honey.
He said Lotfi was told by an angel in his dream that if he wanted to drink from the river again, he should go to Syria.
"When he asked me what the dream meant, I told him to settle his debts. I told him to pray for me after he has found what he is finding for there," said Mokhtar.
Mokhtar and Lotfi had together been detained for three years under the Internal Security Act.
Lotfi, 46, was reported to have died in a hospital in Turkey on Sep 14, five days after falling into a coma following a bombing on Sept 9.
The former Kedah PAS ulama council information chief is believed to have fought alongside the Free Syrian Army.
