Malay-rights NGO Perkasa has urged Umno to set up a special task force to look into the degazetting of Malay reserve land.
 
Malay daily Utusan Malaysia reported today that the allocation for the reserve land which was supposedly 50% of the total land allocations according to the constitution, has declined to only 12% this year.
 
Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali (left) in a statement said it was disheartening that the gazetted land had been reduced to a mere 12 percent and was not replaced as stated in the constitution and wasiat raja-raja Melayu (Will of Malay rulers).
 
The wasiat refers to the message which was presented by the Malay rulers during the signing of the agreement for the formation of the Federation of Malaya on Aug 5, 1957. 
 
The former Pasir Mas MP added that it is a "crime" for the Malays if the degazetted land was not replaced and that the government should set up a proper body to look after the reserve land.
 
"Perkasa urges the government to structure a special taskforce to take action in ensuring the restoration of the reserve land immediately."
 
He also said that he had brought up this issue previously to the government when he was a parliament member but went unheeded.

S'gor Malay reserves doubled

Meanwhile, the Selangor government said the Utusan Malaysia report showing a marked rise in Malay reserve land in the state shows that the state administration has been proactive in the matter.

"After Abdul Khalid Ibrahim took over as Menteri Besar, he set a policy that every reserve land used should be replaced with a land of same size and value," it said in a statement.

It added that it now has complete information on the reserve lands, compared to the previous BN administration and a taskforce to watch over the land.

State’s land and mines office statistics also show that the amount of Malay reserve land had also doubled from 51,083.50 hectares (126,230 acres) in 2009 to 170,533 hectares (420.079 acres) in 2014, in the following areas:

  • Kuala Selangor - 57,779.831 acres (66 reserves)
  • Klang - 19,913.801 acres (14 reserves)
  • Gombak - 11,543.458 acres (19 reserves)
  • Petaling - 2,776.141 acres (7 reserves)
  • Hulu Langat - 33,473.474 acres (15 reserves)
  • Kuala Langat - 45,272.742 acres (14 reserves)
  • Sepang - 45,272.742 acres (16 reserves)
  • Hulu Selangor - 39,353.690 acres (29 reserves)
