A Customs Department director has been charged with eight counts of receiving a total of RM80,000 in bribes at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

Mohd Nasir Said, 58, is charged with receiving RM10,000 each time at the Tesco, Taman Midah, Cheras between October 2012 and July 2014.

He is charged with taking the bribe as impetus not to take action in seizing liquor, which is a taxable item.

Mohd Nasir claimed trial to all the charges before Sessions judge Rosbiah Hanin.

DPP Anthony Kevin Morais prosecuted while lawyer Che Azmi Che Omar represented the accused.

Rosbiah sets bail at RM80,000 with one surety and ordered that Mohd Nasir’s passport be surrendered to the court.

DPP Kevin applied for the case to be transferred to the Shah Alam Sessions Court, and Rosbiah fixed Oct 23 for mention of the case.

Meanwhile, at the Shah Alam Sessions Court seven Customs officers including a principal assistant director of Customs, Saad Ishak, 57, were charged with corruption.

According to a press release, Saad faces nine counts of corruption.

The others charged were Abdul Ghafar Mohamad, 46, (19 charges), Mohd Ariffin Zakaria, 56 (one charge), Sohaizan Othman, 39 (one), Abdul Razak Basri, 55, 11 and Hizam Abd Ghani, 56 (52 charges) and Azlee Mohamad Yusof, 48, (five).

They are charged with not taking action on individuals and companies at the Port Klang Free Zone.

The Shah Alam Sessions Court fixed Oct 30 for mention after they claimed trial.
