Ali Abdul Jalil, who is already facing three charges of sedition was immediately rearrested today, after he was bailed out at the Shah Alam Sessions Court.

The activist is now being taken to IPD Johor Baru Selatan for remand and investigation for a separate allegedly seditious remark. 

Ali, 29, had spent 16 days in detention, after he was first charged under the Sedition Act on Sept 8 for insulting the Selangor sultan in a Facebook posting.

Upon being bailed out, Ali hugged his father, Abdul Jalil Abd Rahman, 62.

Police personnel waiting on the sidelines arrested him after 10 minutes.

Ali was also surrounded by about 20 supporters who packed the tight space in front of the counter where bail is posted.

The atmosphere was electric as the supporters shouted ' Hidup Ali ' (Long live Ali).

The people are king

Despite spending more than two weeks in detention, Ali appeared to be in good spirits was all smiles.

"This is a fight for the people. Article 10 of the constitution allows freedom of speech, freedom to assemble without arms.

Hence, we followed the law.

"We have not done wrong, so we have no need to fear. The people should rise as this is Malaysia, this country belongs to us.  

"Rakyat adalah raja (The people are king)," Ali told his reporters fearlessly.

According to Ali’s lawyer New Sin Yew, the new arrest is a "form of harassment".

"In any event, he was remanded long enough in Sungai Buloh (Prison).

"The police could have investigated all that they wanted to when he was in remand. They could have visited him in Sungai Buloh, there is no need to bring him to Johor. 

"(We) suspect that they are accusing him of posting seditious messages on Facebook.

"The investigation can be done in his absence, there is no need to arrest him," he said.

He added that if he is investigated for posting a seditious message, the "scene of the crime" is not in Johor but in Kuala Lumpur, where Ali lives.

He also said that Ali and his family have cooperated with police and that Ali could have presented himself at the police station to give his statement if need be, without the need for further arrests.
