Perak DAP today lodged a police report against Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, for allegedly making seditious remarks in a speech while on the Pengkalan Kubor by-election campaign trail yesterday.

Seeking an apology, Perak DAP secretary Wong Kah Woh (below) said Zahid’s speech was “seditious” and incited a rift between the Malay and Chinese communities.

The police report was lodged at the Ipoh district police headquarters.

"The accusation by Zahid of the DAP throwing stones at the Raja Muda (Perak regent) and His Highness’ car during a demonstration near Kuala Kangsar during the Perak constitutional crisis is utterly baseless and uncalled for.

"Zahid is hereby challenged to prove his accusation or he shall otherwise retract his statement and tender an apology to DAP and Perakians over his statement," Wong said.

The Malay Mail Online yesterday reported that Zahid used the incidents surrounding the Perak constitutional crisis in 2009 to support his claim that a split among Malays has allowed the DAP to put Malays against Chinese.

He reportedly said that while Malays were lying on the road in protest during the crisis, the "DAP people" were "throwing stones at the Raja Muda".

The minister claimed to have witnessed this himself.

According to Wong, by making those statements in front of an all-Malay crowd, it is Zahid who is inciting a racial rift.

Wong's statement comes after DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang asked Zahid if he will take swift action against ministers under the Sedition Act.

This is as he had vowed to God that police will investigate those who impinge on sensitivities under the Sedition Act "if possible within 24 hours" of a complaint.
