Councillors sign petition to get rid of Iszuree
Fifteen members of the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) signed a petition today demanding the termination of PAS member Iszuree Ibrahim as a councillor.
MPPP councillor Harvinder Singh, who led the group, said the purpose of the demand is Iszuree's ongoing slander and false allegations about the state government.
Harvinder said it was now up to the state government, which appoints councillors, to act accordingly.
He said Iszuree remained a municipal councillor although he has been banned from attending any sub-committee meetings and his budget allocation has been frozen.
However, Harvinder said, MPPP councillors cannot work with someone who is slanderous.
"It is better if he continues with his political agenda elsewhere and not as an MPPP councillor," Harvinder said at a press conference in Komtar today.
"We hope that Iszuree ( left ) will be terminated and his post given to another PAS representative," he added.
The group is upset with Iszuree's speech at the recent PAS muktamar in Johor, where he likened the Penang government to BN.
Iszuree: Penang government is pro-developer
He had said that the state goverment was pro-developer and continued to impose policies left by the previous BN administration.
Iszuree's statement was reported by Malaysiakini on Sept 19, but he claims he was misquoted and is mulling legal action against this news portal.
In interview with the press, Iszuree slammed the state government for being "undemocratic and arrogant".
PAS central committee member Nasrudin Hassan has come to Iszuree’s defene, saying Iszuree had been "beheaded" and it appears to be a grudge by DAP.
Harvinder said the councillors do not want to listen to PAS leaders who are not from Penang who do not understand the real situation there and he went on to criticise the state's action to drop Iszuree from all working committees.
He expressed regret that Iszuree, when defending himself, tried to drag in other unrelated issues by playing with sentiments.
"If Iszuree has lost faith in the state government, action can be taken against him. He is not an elected representative," Harvinder said.
Meanwhile, councillor Haris Zuan Jaharudin ( right ) said Iszuree too is arrogant by posting in his Facebook that "freedom of speech is dead in Penang, what is the point of Speakers Corner at Padang Kota.
"Mao Tze Tong (sic) government... full of revenge".
Haris Zuan said Iszuree cannot compare the freedom of speech of the people with state government representatives or policy makers like himself.
"Iszuree should instead use his strategic position in MPPP to draft policies for the local government," he said at the same press conference.
"Iszuree should be terminated as a municipal councillor as his remarks have been confusing to the people as they do not reflect the real situation in Penang."
