Petaling Jaya Utara Umno deputy division chief Mohamad Azli Mohamed Saad should be charged with sedition for telling the Umno general assembly to discuss the abolishment of the Chinese vernacular school system.

This call for action against Mohamad Azli was made today by the Youth wing of the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP).

The Chinese vernacular school system, according to Mohamad Azli, promoted racism and anti-establishment sentiments.

"His statement is not only seditious in nature, but it is also violation of the fundamental right to Chinese education.

“This is enshrined in the Federal Constitution,” SUPP Youth chief Tan Kai ( left ) said in a statement.

"The statement by Mohamad Azli is not only inciting but seditious. It is tantamount to an attempt to destroy the national unity that is practised by all Malaysians since independence.

“Malaysia is a multi-racial society and every citizen has the right to mother-tongue education," Tan said.

He said that if such an insensitive statement was repeated by politicians, the administration of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should take action.

Tan said: "If Mohamad Azli and others politician continue to issue such insensitive statements, I hope our prime minister will take the necessary action against them.

Recently the Umno leader called for the annual Umno general assembly scheduled for next month to discuss the abolishment of the Chinese vernacular school system, saying it promoted racism and anti-establishment sentiments.

Mohamad Azli was also reported to have said that the Umno AGM should also discuss raising the intake of Malay and Indian students and teachers in Chinese schools to 60 percent.
