Mahathir: Polls will show if criticism of Najib valid

Abasir: Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad should just shut up. Strictly speaking he is just another citizen with an opinion, just as millions of other citizens have a range of opinions about him and the regime (which just happens to be his most enduring legacy).

 

The people of the country know that he is as fallible as the next fellow though he himself will never admit to it, even in private.

 

It could also be that he wishes to revive the practice of 'court advisers' and be treated with the same deference the sultans had for their British advisers.

 

Swipenter: The political corruption of Bolehland was set in motion by Mahathir and now looks unstoppable unless we have a change of power in Putrajaya through the ballot box, but even then the question of a fair and free election is suspect. Mahathir has to ask himself how we as a country have come this stage.

 

A huge perception problem has come into being regarding whether strict adherence to the rule of law and the constitution as the two main guiding principles in the administration and governance of Bolehland.

 

What Mahathir is saying is that Najib Abdul Razak should go on preserving and to continue his legacies which are the root cause of political corruption (and other kinds of corruption) in Bolehland. That is the kind of merry-go-round Mahathir wants Najib to perpetuate.

 

Unlike the days of the Mahathir administration, the rakyat have matured and learnt to think for themselves what good governance is and what is not.

 

Siang Malam: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." So Mahathir is now my friend.

 

Fernz: What can Najib do? Mahathir has stored up enough problems for the future through unsustainable policies implemented through control freakism. He should not blame his successors.

 

Aziz Kader: Mahathir should know that effective usage of the Sedition Act will protect BN. Now all the MPs from BN believe that without the Internal Security Act (ISA), the only channel can save Umno is the Sedition Act.

 

Bahat: Umno is no longer suitable for Dr M. He should quit Umno for the second time. After all Umno is a hotel to the Malays in this country. Happy, then you come in, and if you are not happy, you leave.

Wira: It will be interesting to find out if the super-rich pay any personal income tax and whether they avoid paying income tax for the billions they own. We also want to learn from them how to do it since we cannot avoid paying income tax on a salaried income.

 

Mushiro: Our tax revenue is mainly from the middle-income group where they just cannot run away from the Inland Revenue Board (IRB). The tycoons and billionaires get away with negotiated amount of income tax payment to let them off the hook.

 

If we know the net worth of these top 20 billionaires, then there is nothing wrong in knowing the amount of income tax they pay.

 

Some of these people publicise more on their charity and donations to distract from the real amount of income tax they are supposed to pay, but are not paying.

 

Nil: The amount of taxes a person paid is private and personal and cannot be revealed. You need to find something to justify an investigation into their wealth. The amount of tax paid tells you nothing much.

 

Patriot1: Indeed, taxes are a private matter. The public have no right to know. This is applicable anywhere in the world. Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim has gone bonkers.

 

It is not a crime to be rich but more of how the riches are obtained. If you have proof, go report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

 

Boonpou: Dear Patriot1, would you agree that CEOs of other countries are evading taxes and that it is all right with you? Absolutely no, right?

 

So, why are you complaining then when some super rich in Malaysia is asked to declare their income taxes or for not paying the appropriate income taxes?

 

Why is it that you would agree when it comes to the very rich in other countries and not so when it comes to those in Malaysia? Where is the logic of your argument?

 

Sabahan: Patriot1, if we have proof we do not need to go to MACC, we can go straight to the IRB. They have a reward system for those who expose tax evaders.
