Amid allegations that he is being probed over a doping incident, the world’s badminton No 1 player Lee Chong Wei held a birthday party with his family and friends on Monday night.

Lee, who turned 32 yesterday, posted on his official Twitter that he was celebrating his birthday with his wife and son.

“Birthday celebration with beloved family and close friends last night,” he posted on Twitter with a picture.

Lee has been named in The Star as the “top athlete” who failed a drug test following a major badminton tournament recently.

The daily reported that the athlete had been officially informed on Oct 1, following the international federation informing the national association affiliated to it here.

The person has asked that the second ‘B’ sample be used for testing. It is not known when the results of the ‘B’ sample will be made known, The Star reported.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar had yesterday refused to name the top athlete until the results of the second ‘B’ sample are out.

The ministry is said to be investigating the type of treatment administered to the national athlete who failed the drug test.

“We have sought experts’ advice and discussed with doping specialists to see what could be the next steps. We are still gathering the facts,” the minister was quoted as saying yesterday.
