Suspended PKR member Badrul Hisham Shaharin has demanded the party take action against PKR assemblypersons whom he said "betrayed" party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in the Selangor MB crisis.

 

He claimed that three assemblypersons from PKR and two from DAP had prepared statutory declarations (SD) retracting their support for Wan Azizah to become the menteri besar.

 

However, the former PKR supreme council member declined to show proof or name the individuals involved, until PKR commits to taking stern action if these allegations are proven true.

 

"If PKR can deal with undisciplined leaders who do not follow the party’s directives, why did PKR need to sack (former menteri besar) Abdul Khalid Ibrahim on grounds that he does not follow the party’s orders?

 

"Does PKR practice two sets of rules – one for normal members and one for those who are special?" the activist better known as Chegubard asked at a press conference today.

However, she withdrew her nomination and gave her support to PKR deputy president Mohd Azmin Ali after the Selangor palace picked Azmin for the job.

'Azmin held silent lobby for himself'

According to Chegubard, Azmin had silently lobbied for himself to become menteri besar, and the retraction of support by the five assemblypersons is a part of that effort.

 
On another matter, the activist opined that PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim would not go to jail for this Sodomy II case due to political considerations, and legal considerations would not matter since it is a “politically motivated case”.
 
He said Umno is currently united in opposition against Anwar, and many Umno members who are not happy with its current president Najib Abdul Razak do not dare to speak up as long as Anwar remains a threat.
 
“If Anwar goes to prison, then that threat disappears and those are disappointed with Najib would surely join forces to attack Najib. Not only that, the infighting and tussles for power would become unambiguous.
 
“All these would not happen simply because they fear losing power and are keenly aware of Anwar’s ability to take advantage of any crisis within Umno and BN. In short, Najib would be more comfortable if Anwar is at large,” he said.
 
Najib had previously denied that the government is trying to put Anwar in jail, saying that the matter is a “private action” by Anwar’s former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan that is now before the courts.

The Federal Court is due to hear Anwar’s appeal against his conviction and five-year prison sentence next Tuesday.
