PAS’ syura council will decide on the next course of action to be taken against PAS rebel duo Saari Sungib and Hasnul Baharuddin.

Secretary Nik Muhammad Zawawi Nik Salleh said the syura council will discuss the matter in a meeting on Nov 2.

He also confirmed that he had received the appeal letters from both Saari, the Hulu Kelang state assemblyperson, and Hasnul, the Morib assemblyperson.

“We received the appeal letters on the day they sent them,” he told Malaysiakini.

When contacted, Saari said he had sent his letter – addressed to PAS spiritual leader (Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat) and copied to Zawawi – on Monday.

The letter outlined his actions and asked for the council’s consideration.

“I only did it (signed the statutory declaration) so that Pakatan Rakyat would not split,” he stressed.

He also expressed hope that PAS members will continue to be consistent in their struggles.

PAS on Oct 12 had suspended Saari and Hasnul for signing statutory declarations supporting PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the menteri besar post.

They have been for now suspended for a year, with an opportunity to present a written appeal to the council secretary within 15 days after the decision.
