PKR’s vow for street demonstrations if it de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim is found guilty of sodomy, again, is a threat to public peace as it “could lead to riots”, said the People’s Progressive Party (PPP).
PPP information chief A Chandrakumanan said the remark by PKR vice-president Tian Chua is tantamount to “threatening and instigating” the rakyat against the government and is “seditious” in nature.
“This is considered a serious statement by the MP, which is provocative and can lead to riots.
“PDRM must investigate his statement…as it is detrimental and highly seditious,” he said in a statement.
Chua, who is also Batu MP, had yesterday said that it Anwar is convicted, “there will be a new uprising”.
He said this at the Palace of Justice, as Anwar faces his final appeal against his sodomy conviction, which will resume on Thursday.
Meanwhile, commenting on Anwar’s supporters outside of courthouse, Chandrakumanan ( left ) said that their unruly behaviour is “tarnishing the good name of the country”.
“They are creating havoc… (and) painting a very negative picture by standing in from of the Palace of Justice, shouting and challenging the police,” he said.
Urging them to maintain peace and order, he said the supporters must not take the law into their own hands.
“It’s a case against an individual therefore, let the court decide on the verdict,” he said.
