PARLIAMENT In a tit-for-tat move, BN MPs are to move a motion to refer Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim and DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua to the rights and privileges committee for "misleading" the House.

This follows an earlier move today by Pakatan MPs to refer Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan to the same committee for misleading the House on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) support letter controversy.

BN’s Lenggong MP Shamsul Anuar Nasarah ( left ) is expected to move the motion on Anwar and Pua later today, in relation to supposedly “factual errors” the two Pakatan MPs made while debating the 1MDB issue in Parliament.

Ahmad Maslan, who announced the BN plan at a press conference today, maintained his innocence and said he never misled the House on 1MDB, as accused by Pakatan.

"I said there was no letter of support in the context that there is no explicit guarantee. And that's true. The letter of support exists, but it is still not an explicit guarantee (on a borrowing by 1MDB)," Ahmad Maslan insisted.

"It happened very fast. I said so in a jest, not intended to mislead," he added.

Ahmad Maslan explained that while debating the budget, Anwar claimed that 1MDB had been awarded “RM3 billion for RM11 billion”.

But, in fact, the project was called the ‘3b’ and does not represent 3 billion as Anwar had wrongly assumed. The project was also awarded through open tender and not direct negotiations as claimed by Anwar.

Pua, meanwhile, claimed that a host of 1MDB subsidiaries had not submitted their latest financial statements, but Ahmad Maslan said that in fact, all “fully owned” subsidiaries of 1MDB had submitted their accounts.

He also categorically stated that the government did not issue any other support letters for 1MDB except for the one done for the RM9.6 billion bonds.
