DAP tags Paul Low as BN's 'official apologist'
DAP parliamentarian Tony Pua has again hit out at Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Paul Low for becoming BN’s "official apologist".
DAP parliamentarian Tony Pua has hit out at Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Paul Low, for becoming BN’s "official apologist".
Pua said Low, who is in charge of governance and integrity, had "feebly" attempted to raise a defence for the lack of open tenders in government procurements.
Low’s defence came in light of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) having tabled a report on the management of four incinerator projects by the Housing and Local Government Ministry.
The PAC said the technology used for the incinerators across the country, costing RM200 million, was unproven , while the contractor was unqualified and should have never been chosen through direct tender.
Pua ( left ) said Low, however, opined that “it would be a long time before a fully open tender system is implemented for government contracts to replace direct negotiations”.
He added it seemed that the former chairperson of Transparency International Malaysia had completely capitulated to the ‘tainted’ BN system.
“In the past, he would have supported the PAC chairperson (Nur Jazlan Mohamed)’s stand against direct negotiations without a moment’s hesitation.
“He has become an open apologist for the BN system of shady direct negotiations and given a feeble excuse as to why it will take a long time to implement open tenders,” he said.
The Petaling Jaya Utara MP added that Low should reflect on his journey as the flag-bearer for transparency and governance, as it has “sadly ended”.
