Perak sultan: Judges will continue dad's aspiration
Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has expressed confidence that serving judges will continue the aspirations of his late father, Sultan Azlan Shah.
He said his father aspired for a free judicial system, which was not bound by fear or favour.

The ruler expressed confidence that judicial officers under Chief Justice Arifin Zakaria will carry forth his father’s noble intention which was in line with their oath of office.
"His deep love for the legal field continued even when my late father retired as chief justice by playing a role in the Conference of Rulers,” he was quoted as saying by Utusan Online .
The sultan said this at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya today during a special reference proceedings chaired by the chief justice to remember Sultan Azlan Shah, who passed away in May this year at the age of 86.
The late sultan, who had an illustrious legal career and known for his polished demeanor, became embroiled in controversy during the Perak constitutional crisis in 2009.
The crisis erupted when three Pakatan Rakyat state assemblypersons quit the opposition bloc, triggering the collapse of the state government.
The sultan then refused Pakatan menteri besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin's request to dissolve the state assembly and call for new election.
Instead, BN, with support from the three assemblypersons, formed the new state government.
The new state government's legitimacy and the sultan's decision not to dissolve the state assembly was disputed vehemently by Pakatan politicians.
Among the more vocal politicians was the late DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh, who was later convicted of sedition over his comments regarding the sultan.
