A petition to abolish the Sedition Act has been submitted to Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia.

Opposition lawmakers are now waiting if the petition will allowed to be read out and debated in the House next week.

 

PAS' Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad ( right ) submitted the petition to Pandikar this morning and said that he is expecting the petition to be read in the House next Monday.

 

The petition, initiated by Gabungan Hapuskan Akta Hasutan (Ghah) was signed by 3,005 people, and was handed over to Khalid earlier today.

 

"We now hope the speaker will allow it to be debated," Khalid said during a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah was among those in attendance in Parliament today to hand over the petition.

The petition had fulfilled the minimum signature requirement, and thus will be included in the order paper, but it still remains to be seen if the speaker will allow it to be read out and debated.
