Same old, same old from Umno after 57 years

YOURSAY ‘Malays need to protect themselves from Umno elites and their cronies.’

Muhyiddin: Time for Umno to do or die

Casey: After 57 years in power, Umno's leadership is still playing the same old tune, and sing the same old song.

To deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin, I have this to say: you know as much as we do, that as far as Umno is concerned, the cry of "berjuang untuk bangsa, agama dan negara" is but an artifice. An artifice designed to conceal from the masses the greed for power and wealth of the self-perpetuating and self-serving ruling elites.

In fact, these hypocrites are the real culprits of not only the Malay dilemma, but also national dilemma. These self-serving politicians distort government agenda to divide and rule, by promoting and condoning bigotries; instead of promoting unity to achieve unfettered progress.

Until and unless Umno wakes up to face the reality; that "you cannot fool all the people all the time", the demise and self-destruction of Umno is not a possibility, but a certainty.

The question is: besieged by the Wet Monkey Syndrome , can Umno change? Can Umno reinvent itself?

Anonymous #25558299: Why talk about protecting Malay race when the country is in Malay hands and ruled by Malays all the time, never other races? This is both Malaysia and a Malay nation.

Neither Malays can be attacked by any other race, nor do they dare to attack Malays. It is the people - the Umno leaders with very shallow brain who are greedy and selfish and to cling on to power and enrich themselves - who create all sorts of issues and make life difficult for all races.

Man on the Street: Direct admissions are coming from the DPM that Umno hase failed to overcome the social disparities within the Malay community.

After 57 years in power, with basically everything was in their control coupled with a federal constitution guaranteeing their privileges, yet Umno has failed. So, whose fault is this?

Muhyiddin’s speech was all about pessimism. After all these years, there are no glorious achievements in the community to celebrate. Why is this so?

Swipenter: Throughout the world only fauna and flora on the danger and verge of extinction needs protection. Umno Baru is the biggest and strongest political party and the Malays are the majority.

In fact, they control the government and all branches of the civil service, formulate all the biased policies and implement them partially.

All the most important branches of the economy are majority controlled by GLCs (government-linked companies) and/or Malay cronies.

The Malays do not need protection but they need to protect themselves from Umno Baru elites, warlords and their cronies because they are the very ones shortchanging the Malays (and the country) through massive corruption, nepotism, mediocrity and religious bigotry.

Abasir: "Malay graduates are less likely than equally qualified Chinese Malaysian graduates to be called for a job interview in the private sector even with the same qualifications, and receive lower pay," said Muhyiddin.

Why? The seemingly limitless opportunities in the GLCs and the public sector for Malay graduates serve as a powerful magnet. They are often attracted by a culturally homogeneous and therefore comforting work environment without the bottomline pressure of hard numbers.

They are also, in many cases, unwilling learners - reluctant to pick up new skills nor speak in a language other than Bahasa Malaysia. Employers have grown wary of these graduates whose reputation precedes them.

In short, Malay graduates have become, with the help of the government, their own worst enemies.

Jiminy Qrikert: Malays at 70.3 percent of all unemployed and 66.9 percent of all unemployed graduates is not grossly overweight against other races given that the Malays now make up 65 percent of the population.

In fact, considering the crippling effects of ‘ketuanan Melayu’ policies of Umno that have robbed the Malays of the will to compete on an equal basis, being only a mere 5 percent overweight in unemployment can be regarded as a tremendous accomplishment on part of the Malay youth.

The youth of all other races are brought up to be competitive and to succeed against discrimination by the Umno-dominated government while the Malay youth are conditioned to think from young that they enjoy privileges which others do not.

So a 5 percent deficit is not really disastrous at all. If it was closer to 10 or 15 percent, then there is cause for Malays to panic. A mere 5 percent is collateral damage for Umno in its efforts to cripple the minds of Malay youth.

Otakechik: After five decades, they are still yelling for protection. Are they not ashamed they had failed miserably?

Ketuanan Rakyat: Umnoputras, being in power since independence for more than half a century, now still pretend not to know why they lost majority support among Malaysians.

Malay Malaysians form a huge majority of the people in Malaysia. It is Umnoputras who have exploited the simple nature of the Malays to enrich themselves and pin the blame on non-Malays. The Umnoputras' show will go on as long as they are in power.

Who raped Cameron Highland and blame the illegal immigrants? Who replaced open tender with negotiated tender and award government contracts at inflated prices to their cronies? Who abuse power to stay in power even when the majority of voters did not vote them at the last GE?

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. It is time for all peace-loving Malaysians irrespective race and religion to vote out the utterly corrupted, abusive and totally irrelevant Umnoputras-led BN in the next GE.

Let Pakatan Rakyat, the alternate multiracial coalition which is Malay majority, take over the government.

Desperate for Change: The Malays need protection from being used by Umno. They have to be protected against the ideologies of Umno which set them backward compared to the other races.

Malays do not need Umno. Look at the Malays who were educated under the old education system. They are doing very well.

Doc: Same Umno rhetoric. Only the icing is different. I guess from the DPM speech, it’s pretty clear Umno is walking down the path of becoming irrelevant.

Isana: The graves are ready. We are just waiting to bury Umno. The Gerakan grave is already filled up and ready to be cemented. Meanwhile, MCA and MIC coffins are now being lowered into the holes while the PPP grave is already full of lallang.

Perkasa’s grave will be on the right and Isma's will be on the left of Umno's.

Odysseus: The country will benefit if Umno dies. The Malay race will be liberated. They will not be told they are an inferior race. They can live their life the way they want.

The religions in this country can co-exist in harmony. Children of all races will play happily without any regard to their skin colour or religion. So, please expedite your own demise.

Anonymous #70881335: I have a dream - that one day, Umno will stand and fight for the rights of all Malaysians, rather than just the Malays. Is that day far off, or near?
