For most, Chinese New Year is a time for family and reflection. But for Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, it is also a time to rib BN on some national issues that have happened in the past year.

 

For the third year in a row, Kok has produced a Chinese New Year video message on YouTube which pokes fun at the ruling party, a move that has previously landed her in court with a sedition charge.

 

But for this year's edition, Kok has brought notable Pakatan Rakyat personalities such as PKR's Nurul Izzah Anwar ( left ) and PAS' Khalid Samad on board, alongside activists A Samad Said, Cynthia Gabriel and Hew Kuan Yau.

 

The five minute clip, titled "1 Goat Year, 1 Family", pokes fun at Putrajaya's various initiatives that incorporate a "1" in their names, along with current hot potato issues such as 1MDB's burgeoning debt and recent disaster relief efforts.

 

Jokes aside, the video also contained a heavy multiracial undertone, with the use of several languages and dialects.

 

"Over the last year, statements of racism and religious extremism by some irresponsible groups have surfaced and threatened the peace and harmony of the Malaysian society

 

"The message of the video clip is to call on Malaysians of different races and different beliefs to be one great family of Malaysians who treasure virtues, peace and harmony," said Kok's aide Alice Lan in a media statement.

 

Kok will also be hosting a dinner event on February 12 which the cast of the video will be attending. 

It’s open to the members of public who can register for it at the 1 Goat Year 1 Great Family Facebook page. The closing date is tomorrow.

 

Last year, Kok had released a similar gag clip last year titled ‘Onederful Malaysia’, featuring a panel of Feng Shui experts making hilarious predictions about the new year.

 

However, the authorities didn't share her humour and instead charged her under Section 4(1)(C) for making seditious statements. If found guilty, she stands to be fined up to RM3,000, jailed for up to three years, or both.
