Peeved with the attacks on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's wealth, an Umno division leader has turned the tables on the opposition.

Cheras Umno division chief Syed Ali Alhabshee challenged those in Pakatan Rakyat to empty their pockets before the public.

"The opposition never look at themselves in the mirror. Everything the government does is wrong.

"So I am challenging them to declare their wealth as well.

"If the money is earned in an honest fashion, there is nothing to be concerned about," he told Malaysiakini .

In a blog posting earlier, Syed Ali trained his gun on DAP lawmaker Tony Pua, asking him to set an example by calling on Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives to reveal their wealth.

He noted how Selangor Menteri Besar Mohd Azmin Ali dan his wife were once accused of similar things such as Najib.

"Before he raises this issue (of Najib's wealth), it is better for Pua to deny that opposition leaders are not living in the lap of luxury.

"If he wants to show that he is transparent, Pua must tell the people about the lifestyle of opposition leaders as well," he added.

Syed Ali accused the Petaling Jaya Utara MP of possessing a sinister motive and wanting to sow a negative perception towards the prime minister’s family.

"Perhaps this is the racist agenda which the MP aims to plant in order to create hatred towards Malay leaders," he said.

The Umno leader also lambasted Pua for attempting to cast the family of the late Abdul Razak Hussein, who have contributed much to this nation, in a negative light.

Such attacks, he added, are personal.

"Why is it that of late, the opposition is happy to expose private matters involving Umno leaders, especially those concerning Najib's family?" he asked.

In view of this, Syed Ali advised Pua and the opposition to refrain from indulging in slander and spinning everything that is related to the government.
