DAP leaders in Penang have called for tough actions against PAS for its "unholy act of betrayal" in tabling the hudud amendments in Kelantan yesterday.

 

Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi ( left in photo below ) urged the immediate suspension to all forms of collaboration and cooperation with PAS at state level, starting in Penang.

 

Firm action be taken at all levels in the state government, he said at a press conference today.

 

This include state liason committees, local government, village development and security  committees, local coordinators and state government agencies.

 

PAS’ Salleh Man - Permatang Pasir assemblyperson - sits on the Penang Islamic Affairs Council as president.

 

Ooi urged the DAP national leadership, which will meet on Monday, to make a strong decision to cut all ties with PAS.

 

He warned that PKR-led Selangor will face PAS' betrayal and see the hudud law proposed in its state legislature assembly.

 

Hints of unity gov't in Kelantan

 

He explained that the immediate objective of PAS is to facilitate a unity government with Umno, starting with Kelantan and then Selangor.

 

Kelantan Umno assemblypersons have turned out in full force to support the tabling of the Shariah Criminal Code II Enactment 1993 (2015), hinting of a unity government between the parties.

 

Ooi said Pakatan in Selangor will soon be destabilised by a unity government – with PAS' 15 seats, Umno's 12, and one Independent – comprising more than 50 percent of the 43-seat state assembly.

“Soon there will be clarion calls by pro-hudud activists and NGOs to adopt and implement hudud nationwide in the light of advancement of extreme Muslim brotherhood in the name of the Islamic State and IS,” Ooi warned.

He urged DAP to invoke the spirit and thoughts of its late national chairperson and former Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh - who vehemently opposed the implementation of the Islamic law - to face PAS’ betrayal.

 

Ooi condemned the PAS national leadership as "untrustworthy" as the syariah criminal law will ultimately pave the way for similar enactments to be tabled in other states by way of a Private Member’s Bill in Parliament.

 

However, he urged DAP not to medde in the PAS party election in June by delaying censure of PAS leadership or by taking sides to lend moral support to the pleadings of the so-called liberal group.

 

He urged PAS grassroots and leadership to put their house in order, tend to their own internal problems and political directions.

 

"PAS is either with us or against us, Pakatan Rakyat," said Ooi.

 

DAP senator Ariffin Omar ( right ) said his party will not leave Pakatan and the option is now with PAS.

 

"Why should we leave? Since they (PAS) did not adhere to the agreement to shelve hudud, they should just go," he told Malaysiakini .

 

"PKR should also decide on where they stand. Are they going to condone what PAS has done?" he asked.

 

Ariffin said a coalition between PKR and DAP is far better.

 

"In elections we will not support them (PAS).

"In Sarawak, DAP there is not having any links with PAS. We can do the same here. No big deal," he added.
