Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad will not work with Lim Kit Siang or anyone from the opposition to fight against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"I'm not working with anybody to take down Najib, certainly not with the opposition," he told reporters on the sidelines of an anti-war forum in Kuala Lumpur today.

Lim, in a statement yesterday, said he is willing to work with Mahathir to "save Malaysia", as the former prime minister's fight against Najib was for the "greater good".

Mahathir is on the warpath to oust Najib, questioning his leadership abilities and his handling of national issues such as 1Malaysia Development Berhad's debts.

Meanwhile, Mahathir said his problem was with Umno members who expressed support for Najib ( left ), who is also party president.

"I fear that these people are giving him the wrong impression, that he is popular," Mahathir said.

"Believe me, when I talk to people, almost none of them support him," he added.

As an example, Mahathir said prior to the 13th general election, there were pro-BN rallies where participants held up "I love PM" signs.

However He pointed out in the elections, Najib's performance was worse than his predecessor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who did not resort to such measures.

Under Abdullah's leadership BN won 140 seats in the 2008 elections, while Najib only won 133 seats in 2013.
