Two days ahead of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's scheduled working visit to Indonesia, a magazine in the republic has published an article on the lavish lifestyle of the Malaysian leader and his wife Rosmah Mansor.

In its special edition to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference, the Tempo report contained excerpts from Malaysian and international articles on this issue.

Among others, it cited The New York Times report on Feb 8, which mentioned Rosmah's penchant for expensive handbags and jewellery.

Tempo also highlighted the couple's fondness for luxury watches through photographs shown on Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force's (MyWatch) Facebook page.

Tempo pointed out that Rosmah has at least four expensive watches and all of these items were acquired despite her husband’s salary being about RM350,000 per year.

"Najib and his family's lifestyle has courted the anger of Malaysians," read the article.

Tempo also noted how Rosmah was criticised for not being in touch with reality by Malaysians over her RM1,200 hairdo remark.

Apart from Najib and Rosmah, Tempo also mentioned Najib's stepson Riza Aziz, who bought a New York apartment worth RM110 million in 2012 and a house in Beverly Hills, California worth US$17.5 million in cash.

Najib and Rosmah have always drawn flak over their luxurious lifestyle, with the latter often  accused of being a spendthrift.

Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the latest to mention this in his recent salvo against Najib, whom he warns would cause the ruling coalition's defeat.
