There are enough evidence to support an investigation on the wealth of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's family, Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching said today.

This follows an adviser of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) who yesterday said a probe cannot be conducted based on a mere suspicion.

" The New York Times has stated in their article dated Feb 8 this year that they have obtained invoices and other documents showing millions of dollars in jewellery ordered for (prime minister's wife) Rosmah Mansor in Hong Kong in 2008 and 2009.

"Why can’t MACC approach The New York Times in order to have a look at these invoices and documents?" Teo ( left ) said in a statement.

Corruption Prevention Advisory Panel (LPPR) member Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim had yesterday dismissed Teo's report to the MACC, insisting the graft buster cannot "kill a cat merely on suspicion of eating someone's fish".

"Rakyat of Malaysia never expects MACC 'to kill a cat merely because of the suspicion that the cat has eaten the fish', we only demand MACC to investigate the cat.

"I believe Tunku Aziz should have no difficulties to understand the difference between investigation and actual punishment," said Teo.

Beng Hock mysterious death

She pointed out that the MACC had no qualms in swooping down on DAP's Sri Kembangan state assemblyperson Ean Yong Hian Wah who was later cleared but his aide Teoh Beng Hock mysteriously died after falling off from the MACC's Selangor headquarters.

Teo added that if the MACC can boast it initiated an investigation within an hour after a report about Rosmah allegedly purchasing a RM24.4 million diamond ring surfaced, then it should have no problem probing The New York Time 's allegations.

The MACC had cleared Rosmah of wrongdoing as the ring was only brought in for viewing under her name for Maria Kessikbayev ( right ), then future mother-in-law of prime minister's daughter.

"The accusation towards Najib’s family wealth and lavish lifestyle was not created out of thin air.

"Najib’s step-son Riza Aziz’s luxurious properties are there in US. The handbags, the extravagant wedding were not delusion.

"If MACC refuse to see the elephant in the house and refuse to probe someone who lives beyond his means, then don’t expect any tiny respect for them from the public," said Teo.

The spotlight about Najib's wealth had even spread to Indonesia after Tempo published a similar article just two days before the prime minister began his two-day official visit to Bandung yesterday.
