The Election Commission (EC) will probe into the giant poster of MCA Wanita chief Heng Seai Kie, which conveyed the message of ‘Malays pay more GST’.

“Campaign officers in Permatang Pauh will be investigating,” said EC chief Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.

Action will be taken only after the team has studied the matter, he told Malaysiakini in a text message yesterday.

He was responding to MCA’s allegations that its opponents had twisted Heng’s remark on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to the point of putting up the giant poster in view of the polls today.

When asked the consequences if it was proven that election rules and regulations had been violated, he replied, “Let the team study the case first.”

On May 1, China Press had issued an apology to Heng ( photo ) over a report on her speech in Kuala Rompin the day before, where she spoke on the implementation of GST.

Following this, a recording of her speech emerged on Facebook, where she stated that the Chinese have no reason to oppose GST, in view that Chinese are likely to have fewer children and have higher income levels than other ethnic groups.

Meanwhile, MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong condemned the erection of the poster without her knowledge.

What she said was taken out of context and baseless, he was reported as saying by China Press yesterday.

An angry Wee said the party will  also lodge a police report.
