Cops give Azmin a week to say sorry, or else

Police will open investigation papers should PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali fails to tender a public apology regarding his statement calling the inspector-general of police by a demeaning name.

Penang police chief Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the police would give the Selangor menteri besar at least one week to apologise, failing which police action would be taken against him.

“Up till today, three police associations have issued statements to ask the Selangor menteri besar to make a public apology.

“The statement against inspector-general of police (Khalid Abu Bakar) calling him as an Umno ‘barua’ or lackey is like accusing all the Royal Malaysian Police personnel,” he told reporters after inspecting the polling centre in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Guar Perahu today.

Mohamed Azmin allegedly called Khalid an Umno lackey during a ceramah in Permatang Pauh, recently.

“Police want Mohamed Azmin to tender a public apology and not through his political secretary. We give him a time frame to do so,” said Abdul Rahim.

He said Mohamed Azmin’s case will be investigated under section 504 of the Penal Code if he did not apologise.

Yesterday Khalid described  Mohamed Azmin’s statement against him recently as a rude remark.
