Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia has left Dr Mahathir Mohamad red-faced.

Mahathir said Pandikar's denial about having tendered his resignation created the impression that the former premier told a lie.

"He embarrassed me by saying he is not resigning. He came and met me. I did not ask him to come and see me.

"He said he had given his (resignation) letter to (Prime Minister) Najib (Abdul Razak). I just repeated what he (Pandikar) told me.

"But he made me sound like a liar, this has embarrassed me," the former premier told reporters after a book launch in Putrajaya.

Asked if he would meet Pandikar after this, Mahathir replied: "I don't know."

Earlier, Mahathir told his audience that Pandikar was upset about the shabby furniture in his office and claimed that perhaps the government had rectified this.

On Saturday, the former premier claimed that Pandikar had resigned.

Hours later, the speaker issued a statement denying this.

The following day, Pandikar admitted meeting Mahathir , but claimed that his resignation was not discussed.

"It was a meeting between leaders to discuss what is happening to the country.

"But when he said the speaker wants to (resign), maybe it is because I am disappointed with the current Parliament, which always brings up petty matters," he had said.
