Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli said today the dissent in Umno is very clear, as evident in the leaked video in which Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin called for the 1MDB board to be sacked .

Rafizi said in the video, when Muhyiddin raised the concern about 1MDB issues to party grassroots in Pahang, calls to “sack the president” can be heard coming from the crowd.

He said this could be a signal that Umno members are ready to ditch party president Najib Abdul Razak.

“The best example (of dissent) is Muhyiddin’s video. When Muhyiddin was talking, some are chanting ‘sack the president.’

"It is the mentality of any party which has been in power as long as Umno has, where their main interest now is to keep winning and stay in power,” Rafizi said at a press conference at his office in Sungai Besi today.

In the leaked video of a closed-door meeting between Muhyiddin and the Umno grassroots and leaders in Pahang last week, the deputy prime minister says the authorities must not delay action against the debt-ridden company.

Owned by the Finance Ministry, 1MDB has racked up debts worth RM42 billion.

BN reps asking Pakatan to explain 1MDB

Rafizi also claimed that he has sighted documents regarding Najib’s involvement in 1MDB decision-making, which may complicate things further for the prime minister if the police came knocking, as suggested by Muhyiddin.

He however declined to reveal which document he is referring to.

The trouble brewing in Umno is apparent, he said, because at the current parliamentary sitting, which started on Monday, only one or two Umno leaders are speaking up on the issues, as opposed to the previous one when Umno MPs stood up to lambast Pakatan Rakyat MPs.

“It caught us off guard. One the first two days of the sitting, during the debate on KWAP (public retirement funds) and Capital Market Act, none of the BN members (of Parliament) stood up to speak.

“To me, this is a very clear sign of dissent and boycott,” he said.

Rafizi also revealed that several BN MPs, including “top leaders”, have asked to sit down with Pakatan MPs and asking the opposition to explain the issues surrounding 1MDB.

“I think they are concerned about it now. And they really have no clue of what is happening,” he said.
