Umno Youth's insistence that problems plaguing 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) be solved should not be misconstrued as disloyalty to the party president, Najib Abdul Razak.

The wing's chief Khairy Jamaluddin said this when asked whether the wing would continue supporting Najib, even after his own brother, Nazir Razak, had hit out at 1MDB. 

 

"Don't be confused with what's in front of us today. The issue is not on loyalty," said Khairy in a press conference at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) today.

"The issue is that we want to solve a problem. The issue of loyalty for the party leadership has never arisen, at least among Umno Youth.

"Do you agree?" Khairy asked Umno Youth members present at the press conference, who replied: "Yes."

He said the issue is how to solve 1MDB’s problems in a comprehensive manner so all speculations made against the state investment firm could be answered.

"Individuals such as Low Taek Jho (photo) must be investigated so that we can determine whether he had a role to play or not (in 1MDB)," he said.

Can't be selling land every month

 

The Youth and Sports Minister also expressed hope that there would be a complete and holistic recovery plan for 1MDB.
 
"We need such a plan, if not, every month land has to be sold (to settle 1MDB's debts)," he said.
 
He further stressed that stern action must be taken on those responsible for the crisis, be it the management, individuals or board members.
 
"If not, whatever explanation given will not be accepted by the rakyat."
 
Meanwhile, asked to comment on former finance minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah's (photo) remarks that the cabinet should be held responsible for the 1MDB imbroglio, Khairy said the problem now warranted collective response from the cabinet.
 
"So this week, we are made to understand that there will be something presented to the cabinet about the recovery plan. We will take it from there," he said.
 
Asked how often cabinet was briefed on 1MDB, Khairy said: "Recently, more so."
