Outgoing PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar today defended the party's decision to approve without debate a motion to cut off ties with DAP with a strange tale of a young maiden, bosoms and heart attacks.

In his winding-up speech at the 61st PAS muktamar in Kuala Selangor, the Pokok Sena MP said the motion should not be debated because the words used during the debate may make matters worse.

"We have to think what the implication is when we say things that can cause Pakatan Rakyat to break up.

"This is just like the tale of a 19-year-old girl whose father wants her to marry a 70-year-old man," he said.

Mahfuz ( photo ) then proceeded to tell a tale of how the girl's friends told her that she might be a young widow if her husband dies from a heart attack.

Clueless, the young maiden then asks her mother - who does not approve of the match - what a heart attack is.

"So the mother says 'If he sleeps with you and gropes your breast, that's okay. But if he gropes his left breast, then you call us.'

'May cause fear, hate'

“So what does men groping their left breast mean? It means a heart attack," Mahfuz explained to his rapt audience.

He added that the girl then grew afraid of becoming a widow and called off the wedding.

"So we must (guard) our words, it may cause fear or hate," Mahfuz said ending his unusual tale.

Several PAS delegates at the muktamar had been critical of the party's decision to forego a debate on whether PAS should sever its ties with DAP.

It is now up to the new PAS central leadership and the Syura Council on whether or not to execute the ulama wing motion which observers say may spell the end of the Pakatan coalition.
