PasMa will be joining a new opposition coalition that is to be formed with DAP, its president Phahrolrazi Mohd Zawawi announced today.

The proposed new coalition with DAP will be a follow-up to his organisation's announcement on June 13 that it was forming a political party .

Phahrolrazi said the new political party was intended to replace PAS but he has not disclosed further details, until today’s announcement.

"DAP's proposal (for a new political coalition) is similar to PasMa's," he is quoted as saying in a Berita Harian report today.

""PasMa's proposal, among others, is to set up a new coalition based on a clear structure because before this, Pakatan Rakyat's structure was loose as it was merely based on an understanding.

"Therefore there needs to be a new pact that has a clear leadership structure and mechanism that bonds the parties together, based on a common policy," Phahrolrazi ( photo ) said.

He added that the new coalition would also have a clear mechanism to resolve differences in opinions.

PasMa would remain as an NGO, but will give its strong support to the new political party it plants to establish to face the 14th general election.

PasMa comprises PAS members who are pro-Pakatan and have been sidelined by the new conservative PAS leadership, which prefers a tougher stance against its coalition partners.

DAP announced the end of the Pakatan coalition last Tuesday, in response to the passing of a motion for PAS to sever its ties with DAP at the party’s 16st Muktamar early this month.

DAP had since expressed its interest in forming a new, wider coalition.
