Jailed PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has been sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for a much needed medical treatment.

PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said Anwar's family has been informed on the matter.

"We were made to understand that Anwar will be placed at a separate ward at HKL for a few days.

"He will be treated with intensive physiotherapy for his shoulder, his blood pressure monitored and they will conduct a CT Scan for his kidney," he said in a statement today.

Fahmi added that Anwar's wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail ( photo ) was allowed to visit the former deputy premier.

This comes after the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) of MPs from across the globe has called for Anwar to be given the necessary medical treatment.

Last week Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said he was informed on Anwar's condition and has ordered the relevant parties to act on it.

Anwar is now at Sungai Buloh prison after he was found guilty of sodomy and sentenced to five years in jail in February.
