Police have cordoned off Low Yat Plaza after about 200 people gathered in front of the building in reaction to a brawl that occurred inside the building yesterday.

Members of the group, who claimed to represent Malay NGOs such as Persatuan Kebajikan Islam dan Dakwah Islamiah (Pekida), had tried to enter the main entrance of the building about 8.35pm, but were stopped from doing so.

Video evidence shared on the social media ( see below ) indicate that those from this group who made it into the mall were taken away by the police.

Low Yat Plaza was shuttered down about 9pm. Police eventually cordoned off the area with yellow tape to prevent the group from gathering.

Dang Wangi CID chief M Gunalan was at the scene to keep order. Police at the scene confirmed that there was one arrest.

A man, who claimed to be an Ayahanda (Pekida leader), told reporters that they were there to stand up for the man who was beaten up by mall staff.

"We want to get fairness and justice. We want to show MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) justice. We don't want counterfeit goods here.

"We will send lawyers to help," he said.

However, the man denied that his group was motivated by racism and violence.

"Inside the picture (of yesterday's scuffle) it's not just Malays and Chinese. We are from Islamic NGO. I am from Pekida Malaysia," he said, while declining to elaborate further.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur CID chief Zainuddin Ahmad confirmed that a mall staff was arrested for wielding a weapon but refused to comment further.

It is understood that Zainuddin was referrring to the brawl that occured yesterday evening, involving seven youths and dozens of mall staff.

According to the police, the youths were motivated by revenge, after one of their friends was arrested for theft by several mall staff.
