The special task force probing the allegations surrounding 1MDB will look into the controversial leaked video of former deputy premier Muhyiddin Yassin.

Asked if the new piece of information would be handled by the task force, the inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar replied: "Yes".

"Sure. Anything to do with 1MDB will be handled by (the task force)," he added.

However, he did not wish to comment further on the video, which has since gone viral.

"I will not comment on investigations on 1MDB because there is already a task force handling it.

"I will not make any comment," he repeated, when asked if the police would investigate the claim.

Khalid is a member of the task force, which also comprises the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Bank Negara.

In the 57-second video clip, Muhyiddin said Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak admitted RM2.6 billion was transferred into his personal accounts.

He said this when meeting with several guests at his house on Tuesday night after Najib dropped him from the Cabinet.

Life will go on as usual

Meanwhile, when asked on police's observation of the rakyat's sentiments after Muhyiddin was sacked as deputy prime minister, Khalid said some were shocked, some supported the move and some did not.

"(But) things will settle down, I'm sure life will go on as usual. This is not the first time that a cabinet reshuffle has happened. It's a normal thing.

"It's the same with myself. When the time comes for me to retire, I will retire as well," he said.

As for former special branch director Akhil Bulat who was replaced by Mohamad Fuzi Harun, Khalid stressed that it was simply his time to retire.

"His contract ends on August 18, now he is on holiday overseas. That's why we need a new officer to replace him, this is a normal thing in this (police) team.

"Why is it when others are replaced people are not worried but when Akhil retires people are worried?" he asked.

When pointed out that Akhil was replaced the same day as when former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail was replaced by Mohamed Apandi Ali, Khalid said it was simply a coincidence.

"It's just a coincidence, they are not related at all," he said.

On another matter, asked to comment on why the fire which broke out at Bukit Aman yesterday was linked by the public to 1MDB, Khalid replied that the people simply "like to spread rumours".

"When I tweeted about the fire, there are those who speculate this and that. There were also politicians who purposely tried to raise suspicions.

"I can tell this Ngeh (Koo Ham). It would be okay if he had wanted to help, but instead he had made people anxious.

"As an MP he should not have done this. This time around, it is sufficient for me to say this, but in the future, we will be taking action," he said.   

In his tweets on the matter yesterday, the Beruas MP asked Khalid to confirm whether it was indeed true that only unimportant documents were destroyed in the fire.
