I'm not a traitor, declares Bung

Controversial Umno lawmaker Bung Moktar Radin is disappointed with the allegation that he is amongst the BN members of Parliament conspiring to topple the government and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"I have never been a traitor to the party. This is a serious and regrettable accusation," he said in a statement reported by Bernama .

The Umno supreme council member said while he might be vocal, he has never pawned his dignity for not being on the same page with any leader.

The Kinabatangan MP added that he considers Umno's struggle to be "clean and sincere".

Bung also stressed he would be the first to oppose any effort to overthrow the BN government in Parliament.

"To me, this a government elected by the people. If it is to fall, let it be through the general election and not street protests or any other undignified manner," he added.

Bung called on the irresponsible quarters not to drag his name into this plot.

A blog had published the names of the 20MPs, which included Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

This was after Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealed that an "old man" from Umno is seeking to form a unity government.

He claimed the MP, in collaboration with opposition lawmakers, was trying to convince some BN MPs to sign statutory declarations to show they have majority control of the Lower House.

Two others on the list, Gerik MP Hasbulah Osman and Parit Sulong MP Noraini Ahmad have also denied their involvement.

‘Slanderous and immoral’

Meanwhile, Kudat MP Abdul Rahim Bakri also dismissed the allegation, describing the blog posting “slanderous and immoral”.

He clarified that nobody had approached him over the past two weeks, nor did he meet anyone.

“As I have said before, I am grateful to the prime minister for giving me the opportunity to serve in three important ministries.

“It is illogical and inhumane to make such an allegation,” he added.
