Former Special Branch (SB) deputy director Abdul Hamid Bador believes he was transferred out of the department because of his insistence the 1MDB probe be conducted in a fully transparent manner.

The SB veteran added his 37 years of service may have ended suddenly with a transfer to the Prime Minister's Department (PMD) because he did not want to carry out the “agenda” of certain parties’.

“They may be worried about my loyalty to carry out a certain agenda. I am a professional and whatever I investigate, that is exactly what I will produce,” Abdul Hamid said at a press conference this morning.

“We will not change the report to say otherwise. We will reveal the truth of the matter, and perhaps they don’t like that and want to hear something nice instead. They want to ‘syok sendiri’ (kid themselves),” he quipped.

“Maybe (I was transferred) also because I always called for the 1MDB probe to be conducted transparently,” he added.

He however declined to elaborate on what he meant by 'certain agenda'.

Abdul Hamid's transfer is reminiscent of the plight of two other Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers linked to the 1MDB probe earlier.

MACC special operations division director Bahri Mohd Zin ( photo ) and strategic communications director Rohaizad Yaakob were also slapped with transfer orders to the Prime Minister’s Department.

The transfer, which drew flak, was later cancelled.

In another related development, Jessica Gurmeet Kaur, involved in the earlier special task force probing the 1MDB scandal, had been terminated as an officer in the Attorney-General’s Chambers and her permanent residency revoked.

'Summoned by DPM'

Meanwhile Abdul Hamid told reporters that two weeks prior to the issuance of his transfer letter, he was summoned to see Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the police headquarters in Bukit Aman.

Abdul Hamid claimed that in the meeting, Zahid ( photo ) told him following a meeting with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, he was given the option of transferring either to the National Security Council (MKN) or the Prime Minister’s Department.

“I was told to come in and he said that the prime minister is giving me two options, whether to transfer to the MKN or the PMD.

“I was shocked. I thought about it for a while. So severe is my punishment that I would have to leave the police force, I said to myself.

“It is as though I have committed an unforgivable sin and have to be ‘tamed’ outside the police force.”.

Nevertheless, he said he has yet to decide whether to report for duty at the PMD on Sept 17.

This is because his future post as deputy director of security and transnational issues has yet to be set up and is still being discussed by the Public Service Department (PSD).

“Strangely, the post offered to be is not yet prepared and the PMD is still in discussion with the PSD,” he said.

Abdul Hamid has relinquished his police post last Wednesday. His transfer followed the retirement of the former SB chief Akhil Bulat last month, and the latter of succeeded by Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
