Kit Siang, DAP leaders to stay overnight for Bersih 4
Led by their 74-year-old parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, DAP leaders will stay overnight with the Bersih 4 protesters this weekend.
DAP secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng will attend the rally but won't be spending the night as he is attending an official event in Penang on Aug 30.
Speaking at a press conference today, DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke said the party would also mobilise 10,000 members for the 34-hour rally, which starts this Saturday.
The main aim of the rally is to press for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s resignation.
Loke said DAP leaders and members will converge at Jalan Sultan at 1pm and will march to Dataran Maybank 30 minutes later.
There, they will converge with other protesters before proceeding to Dataran Merdeka.
He also promised that DAP will not display its party logo and all party leaders and members have been instructed to wear the yellow Bersih 4 T-shirts.
Meanwhile, Kit Siang ( photo ) said the world will be watching Malaysia during the protest on Aug 29 and 30.
"The whole world is watching and Malaysia must not fail the global test of human rights, democracy and good governance so as not to head towards a rogue and failed state," he said.
He also called upon the police to cooperate with Bersih 4 organisers and security personnel to ensure the rally proceeds peacefully.
Look out for agent provocateurs
“The police and Bersih participants must be on the lookout for agent provocateurs and take all necessary actions to prevent them from disrupting Bersih 4.
“Let the successful Bersih 4 overnight rally be the beginning of a national healing process for the nation to recover from the multitude of political, economic, good governance and nation-building crisis confronting Malaysia," he said.
He also called on the people to stand up and prove that Urban Wellbeing, Housing, and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan’s remark on the Bersih 4 having an adverse impact on the economy was wrong.
