Websites promoting the red shirt anti-Bersih rally will be blocked, if the protest is deemed illegal.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak he will wait for an official announcement from the police on the matter.

"We will monitor the sites like we did during Bersih 4. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission will take action if the rally is illegal.

"So far the police have yet to make a decision and I was informed the organisers are still seeking approval," Salleh ( photo ) told reporters in Putrajaya today.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar has asked the rally organisers to find a stadium and stay out of downtown Kuala Lumpur.

His deputy Noor Rashid Ibrahim announced on Sept 7 that the rally is illegal .

The MCMC previously blocked two websites promoting the Bersih 4 rally.

Action against posters

Speaking after the pre-launching the Malaysian Cybergames 2015, Salleh said the commission would also take action against any posters that threaten racial harmony.

"One of our duties is to maintain national security. Action must be taken against anything that can divide the races," he said.

In the aftermath of the Bersih 4 rally, posters have appeared that among others threaten to spill the blood of those who purportedly ‘challenge the Malays’.

A Himpunan Maruah Melayu (Malay pride) rally is being held to counter what they claim was a Chinese-dominated Bersih 4 protest, which they maintain was racist.

Malay participants at the over 100,000 strong two-day Bersih rally on the Merdeka Day weekend to call for clean and fair elections have denied that the rally was an all-Chinese affair.
