PKR wants PAS, PSM in but internal grumblings continue
PKR announced today that it will work to widen the membership of Pakatan Harapan by inviting PAS, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and the local parties in Sabah and Sarawak.
However, the resolution made at today's emergency central leadership committee meeting does not mean the grouses raised by 25 of its members over the new opposition pact's formation has been put to rest.
PKR announced today that it will work to widen the membership of Pakatan Harapan by inviting PAS, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and the local parties in Sabah and Sarawak.
However, the resolution made at today's emergency central leadership committee meeting does not mean the grouses raised by 25 of its members over the new opposition pact's formation has been put to rest.
On the public front, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali told reporters after the meeting that the central committee is happy with the explanation given by party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (photo) .
Azmin said the MPP agreed with the party’s renewed commitment to build a strong and united opposition front and to find solutions to the deepening national crisis.
"PKR is committed to strengthening Pakatan Harapan towards being an inclusive political coalition and will continue to widen its membership to include other political partners, including PAS, PSM and political parties from Sabah and Sarawak," he told a press conference at the party headquarters in Petaling Jaya.
The meeting was pre-empted by rife speculation that a faction within the party was trying to oust secretary-general Rafizi Ramli.
When asked about this matter, Azmin reiterated that this was “slander” by outsiders.
“It's not true at all. It was never been discussed. That is a slander made by our political enemies," he said.
Mumurs of discontent
Despite the united appearance, murmurs continue over the dispute.
Even the announcement of the plan to include PAS and PSM in Pakatan Harapan was bereft of details.
The disgruntled MPP members sought an explanation on why Pakatan Harapan was formed without PAS, despite PKR’s standing cooperation with the Islamist party, and why a friendly party like PSM was left out.
Grilled at length over the matter, Azmin asked all to respect the process and the views of all parties, while giving time for PKR to plan its next course of action.
He also said another press conference would be called by PKR next week to announce the plan.
"We will call another press conference, the more important one (than this) and we will discuss about this at length," Azmin said.
