Outgoing MACC deputy commissioner (management and professionalism) Zakaria Jaffar today called on the graftbuster to remain steadfast in probing the most powerful person in the country.

"It so happens that as I am retiring, the MACC is probing a high profile individual.

"The officers involved in the case must be supported and be given a warrior spirit booster to face this most difficult battle.

"We are facing a probe involving the most powerful person in the country," he said without naming names.

Speaking at his retirement ceremony in Kuala Lumpur today, Zakaria said this challenge will test how independent and professional the MACC is in the eyes of the people.

The MACC is probing a RM2.6 billion donation into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's ( photo ) private accounts. They plan to question him.

The graftbuster is also probing former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International on allegations that funds had also made its way to Najib's pockets.

Make an airtight case

Zakaria said the MACC needs to make an airtight case to ensure that the case is tried in court.

"Leave no stone unturned. Don't give any room for anyone to reject the case," he said, in reference to the Attorney-General's Chambers pursuing no further action on Bank Negara's probe on 1MDB .

He added that MACC must also make it clear if they have a case to be brought to court in their investigation paper.

This, he said, will make it clear to the future generations that the graftbuster has done its duty.
