The first day of the final Parliament sitting for the year witnessed a split in the opposition regarding the no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

This was after DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng urged PKR lawmaker Hee Loy Sian to retract his motion on the matter.

However, PKR's Batu MP Tian Chua defended Hee, saying the latter had the right to do so.

Met at the Parliament lobby later, Lim said such an issue of national importance should be tabled by opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

"If we want to remove the prime minister, it should not come from an ordinary MP, this is the same overseas.

"Let's not play games, this is not 'main guli' (marbles).

"Unless you want to diminish the importance of the motion by 'main guli', go ahead," he said, adding that DAP would not be part of such a move.

Such a motion, he said, was important for the opposition leader to file.

If not, then all opposition MPs can table (a motion), he added.

"I can also table the motion, given that DAP is the biggest opposition party," said Lim.

He added that any motion tabled by an individual lawmaker would give an impression that the opposition was not confident it would be passed in the House.

He said DAP Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran also retracted the similar motion following party's advice.

On Chua's statement that MPs have the right to table a motion, Lim said his PKR colleague lacked understanding in parliamentary procedure.

"Yes, MPs have their right, but if you think any MP can file a motion against the prime minister, then ask the all 88 MPs to table, " he said.
