Selangor Umno liaison chief Noh Omar today denied his party and PAS had attempted to form a unity government in Selangor, a claim made by former PAS vice-president Husam Musa.

He questions the PAS leader's logic for making the claim.

"PAS has 15 state assemblypersons while Umno has only 12. We need at least 29 seats (out of 56) to form a government in Selangor," he said when met at MIC's Deepavali open house in Batu Caves.

A PAS-Umno combination in Selangor would yield 27 seats - two seats short of claiming power.

Noh said neither the Islamic party nor its party president Abdul Hadi Awang, as well as Selangor PAS chief Iskandar Abdul Samad, had approached him to discuss the matter.

When asked if he has knowledge about the attempt, he said: “Not that I am aware of.”

Husam and former Selangor PAS deputy commissioner Khalid Samad mentioned two attempts were made to form a unity government – the first time, right after 2008 general election and more recently, last year.

Husam claimed Hadi had admitted to having asked three PKR state assemblypersons to join PAS to form a unity government with Umno.

In addition, Khalid Samad had claimed that Hadi and a few leaders planned to meet then Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and then former Selangor opposition leader Mohd Khir Toyo to discuss the matter.

Khir, who was the Selangor mentri besar since 2000, had helmed Selangor Umno state liaison until 2009.

Prime Minister and Umno president Najib Abdul Razak appointed himself as Selangor Umno chief amidst infighting speculation between Khir and Noh.

Noh was appointed as Selangor Umno liaison chairperson last year.

On Oct 27, Hadi had announced PAS' latest approach to cooperate with BN on common issues affecting the people. He also dismissed the possibility of forming a unity government with Umno.
