No heed to Hishammuddin’s 'denial syndrome' warning?

Despite Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein's warning about the party being in a denial syndrome, the top Umno leadership does not seem to be heeding his call, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said.

"There is no sign that the top Umno leadership is coming out of their "denial syndrome" any time soon," Lim said in his speech at a Pakatan Harapan ceramah in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, last night.

Otherwise, he pointed out, the Umno supreme council would not have broken tradition by preventing the party's deputy president, Muhyiddin Yassin, from addressing the Umno Wanita, Youth and Puteri assemblies.

Yesterday, Hishammmuddin said that Umno was facing an erosion of trust and must find ways to stay relevant.

"We cannot continue having a denial syndrome .

"We have to clearly, courageously and sincerely admit that Umno is facing a test of trust," Hishammuddin, who is defence minister, had said.

However, Lim wondered if Hishammuddin's advice had come too late.

Umno is not only losing the trust of Malaysians and the Malays, Lim said, but of Umno members themselves, due to the 1MDB and RM2.6 billion issues.

"The 30 million Malaysians, and in particular the three million Umno members and 21,000 Umno branches, are entitled to ask whether Hishammuddin is being serious in his warning that Umno is facing a crisis of trust deficit as Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak continues to keep mum on the twin mega scandals," he said.
